Why Raw Footage and Project Files Are Not Included in Standard Deliverables

At F8 Creative, we take pride in delivering polished, professional videos that reflect our expertise and meet your goals. Our standard deliverables include a fully edited video that aligns with the agreed-upon vision and achieves your desired impact. However, we understand that clients may sometimes request raw footage or project files. Below, we explain why these items are not part of our standard deliverables and why an additional fee applies when they are requested.

Raw Footage: The Building Blocks, Not the Final Product

Raw footage is the unprocessed material captured during production. Think of it as the raw ingredients in a recipe. While essential for creating the final product, raw footage lacks the refinement, structure, and storytelling that make your video engaging and impactful.

Why It’s Not Included

  • Volume and Organization: Raw footage is often extensive, including multiple takes, alternate angles, and other outtakes. Sorting through these files without the context of the editing process can be overwhelming. The files also consume an enormous amount of storage space.
  • Creative Integrity: The final video represents the cohesive narrative we craft during post-production. Raw footage may not reflect this polished vision and could be misinterpreted if viewed out of context.

Why an Additional Fee Applies

Providing raw footage requires time and effort to organize, transfer, and sometimes reformat large files to ensure compatibility. This process goes beyond the scope of the original project agreement and involves additional resources. Loss of future work is also a serious consideration. Consider the analogy of a chef who shares the recipes for his award-winning dishes.

Project Files: Proprietary Tools for Expert Editing

Project files are the editable blueprints we use to create your video. These include timelines, effects, color grading, and other creative elements that are specific to our editing software and workflow.

Why They’re Not Included

  • Software-Specific Files: Project files are often created using industry-specific software, which may not be accessible or functional without the same tools and expertise. This also includes plugins, add-ons, and assets that are not part of the core software itself and cannot be transferred to the client.
  • Creative Property: These files represent the culmination of our professional skills, techniques, and proprietary processes developed over years of experience.
  • Potential Misuse: Without proper training, project files may not function as intended or could lead to misrepresentation of our work.

Why an Additional Fee Applies

Sharing project files involves preparing and exporting data in a way that is usable and compatible for the client. This takes additional time and resources beyond the original scope of work.
